I MEAN (A) CONCRETE SONG(S) OF EUROPE!

(for exp: I've wrtten this about Broken wings:
The song that brings me back into summer! ....dogdays june afternoon, 7pm, sunset, 40°C in the shade! Rushing with my car out in the streets, drums are bumping in the "stereo with big guitars:)" wind's blowing in my long hair, I'm driving...., driving to a concert/party/seacost or whatever!...)

JOHN NORUM: TOO MANY HEARTS
This LP was released when I lived in New Zealand as a kid - the winters were very long and wet. When I hear this song, Im back in my old bedroom - posters on the walls - winter rain and wind lashing at the door... I was in love for the first time and remember my g/friend coming around to visit. When I hear this song I even remember what the house we lived in smelled like. Its all about new love, frosty nights and cuddling whilst listening to the Total Control cassette. [SM=x237832] LOL
I havent thought about this in ages. GR8 topic! Thanks Tommy!

Sweet memories..
Oh, my first memories of Europe was when I bought TFC. I sat in my room and listened to it over and over again. Read all the things on the cover and by some strange reason I thought that one of the girls mentioned in the thanking list was Joeys girlfriend! HAHA (Maybe it as?? hehe)
It was really special to listen to it on the vinylplayer, cause you had to turn it over =)
Then I bought "Open your heart" single and listened to that one very much.
The guys were in a magazine called "Okej" very much. The editor of it followed them from the very beginning and I think it was very important for them to be in it. It was the best advertising they could get and their posters were very cool! =D
But did I save the mags I bought? Well, some of them but I have got some recently just to read them again. Lovely nostalgia!
Europe is very much related to my youth and I am very happy that they are back together!!

Okey....
Well, my first memory of Europe is also about TFC album... I bought it in Musicassette (hahaha) and I remember when I was a litle girl, I always was going to my room, closed the door.... and started to dream. My father always told me that I was "too time by myself in the room" hahahahaha.... The songs which are very spaecial to me of this album are TFC, Carrie, Rock the Night, Cherokee and Love Chaser. I always tried to know waht they said (I didn't speak english by that thime) and I remember to buy lots of German magazines, becuase I didn't understand a word, but thay had really GREAT pics!! hahahaha.
A funny thing: One day I was waiting to record the Carrie video from a TV program here in Spain.. and when it began, the lights went off!! So I coludn't record it... The laughing of my sister can still be heard =) hhahahahaha

me and TFC, my old hometown, the summers, the winters, Norum, and everything
[SM=x237803] So. I originally came from the "sometimes Yugoslavia". As a hungarian family we moved to Budapest when that filthy fucking war (1991-1995-and ??????:(() has begun in Croatia (Baranja), 50 kms away from our town in Croatia (Baranja)[SM=x237801] . As hungarian people we had nothing to do anymore in Vojvodina, our parents tought that me and my little sister as hungarian children we have no future there. so we moved...

One of my first LP's was TFC. (the really first was an album of Divlje Jagode-they are a Croatian/Bosnian great rock n roll band!:) I remember: Mama carried me home from kindergarten, we had then a nice walk on the Danube bank in Novi Sad. it was circa in 1986-87, I was 6 then:) It was in winter, I remember. When we arrived Grandpa was watching the TV, and then I heard a beautiful keyboard intro (you know what it was I think so:). I was shocked totally, so I've run into the dining room to see what it was. Unfortunatelly my Grandpa swithced out that channel! I started to cry, and played that keyboard theme on my little toy synthesizer (I still have it! it's a Yamaha-Porta Sound:)to my Daddy. He knew it was Europe, and he called me to watch the music program on the another tv. As we watched the tv, a band appeared on it, with big hair, crashing Hammond sound, great image, screaming guitars..... It was Europe, and it was a playback performance of Rock The Night....
We was schocked again by that crystal clear, heavy sound, and by
the guitarist with a yellow guitar, threwed in the air by the vocalist (It was Kee, but we didn't know):)))
Little Tommy's life was finished:))[SM=x237824] [SM=x237824] [SM=x237824]
After few days Daddy brought me home THE ALBUM!
After then - believe it or not - I listened to it EVERYDAY!
It's 2005. I'm 24. AND I LISTEN TO THAT OLD LP MINIMUM + TIMES A WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Way back then I promised that I'll be a musician, and I said "Daddy! I'd like to grow my hair like Joey has! I'd like to play the guitar like Norum does! I'd like to have Tama drums, Yamaha DX7 and Ibanez guitars!!!" (my daddy have read to me these brand names on the backside of the TFC's inner sleeve:)))))) my first (AND FOREVER THE BIGGEST) favourite
was Heart of stone. That song was the reason I picked up the six string! That song and John himself:))- So... my parents took me to the Novi Sad School of Music, and I started to learn to play piano (I was too young to play the guitar, they said). I remember, we had a big garden in Novi Sad, and I carried out my big speakers to the garden. I had a plastic, stratocaster shaped toy guitar. I turned up the volume to the maximum, and I played myself (and for the screaming/shouting neighbours of ours:)) an "open air show" haha! It used to be my favourite playing:)))

......but then those years of darkness and pain came.......

But.: Every summer when we went down to the Croatian seacoast, to "my" lovely little Adriatic Sea, or we went up to Slovenia, to the Julian Alps, me and my parents (Daddy is a big rocker too! He's 52 old!!![SM=x237823] ) was ALWAYS listening that album![SM=x237824]
Nowadays we are living near the northern city limits of Budapest, in Dunakeszi (again, it's on the bank of the old Danube river:), wich is a small suburbian town.
...but we have a garden again:).. When I was 18-19 I had the same hair like Joey or Jon Bon Jovi in the late 80's:[SM=x237824] ...
I've got a beautiful japanese Ibanez from my parents as a present for Christmas.[SM=x237826] [SM=x237826] ..
I started to play in rock bands..... and life goes on.....
But Europe still works[SM=x237811] [SM=x237823] [SM=x237800] and I hope they WOULD NEVER GIVE UP ROCKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...my flashbacks when I listen to their music:
- my childhood
- my old hometown
- my all life
- travelling by bus up to Vrsic mountain pass in Slovenia, climbing on the north face of Prisojnik mountain:)))[SM=x237809]
- lurking on the nice small streets of the Istrian towns of Rovinj, Porec and Vrsar
EUROPE'S TFC ALBUM IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN MY LIFE!
THANK YOU GUYS (I hope you will read this once a day)FOR THE SUPPORTING OF MY ALL LIFE!!!!!!!!
I CAN NOT EXPLAIN HOW MUCH YOUR MUSIC MEAN TO ME!

....as my favourite LP ends up, I'll end it up the same way:
..."love chaseeer!-If you look deep in his eyes".....

I care! - my flashbacks tho are more caused by your flashbacks
Hay, Tommy!

I care![SM=x237825]

I have read your post now a long time ago, and wanted to reply immediately, but was to much in my own fellings and memories that I have about that time that you describe.

Sorry for my english, as you can see I´m from Croatia, and I study german language, so i´m not as fluent in english as i would like to be.

So...I remember the times that you describe...as that stupid, insane war started...I live in Zagreb, so I was to much affected (just a few times in a bunker, I thik it was like 10 or...i don´t know any more...well...but I was very near as the bombs realy fell on the city, I think that happend twice, I had some classes in my music school, I stayed a litlle longer, so didn´t go through the park where i would normaly go through...so I missed it, when the things hit... ... ... anywho...I can´t talk more about it cause there were people that suffered so very much more...like you, when had to leave your home...).
Well, at the time I wasn´t listening to Europe, I was completly into the classical music, playing piano, etc.
But as I read what you wrote, those memories of an happy times before the war and all the sh.ts, realy come before my eyes. I had an old grandma in Bosna, and I used to visit her every summer for a month, and in spring too. After it, I could´n visit her anymore and walk near the river Sava that was near her house, just on the border with croatia, she lived across Zupanja, I think you could know where that is.

So, your memories, Europe memories, gave me a look into some of my memories of that time that don´t have much to do with Europe, but...are as same dear to me I guess as yours to you.

My Europe memories start a few years later, but I´m not gonna write it here, cause I have written some in my thread The first Europe song (can be found in Europe-threads)..and cause this already is a long post...

Well, I hope I haven´t bored you to death with this writing...wanted to ask you somthing, can you still speak some croatian..or whatever you wanna call the language?

Many many great greetz,
wanted to post a hug-smily, but there is no such smily (hm?),so I give you [SM=x237825] [SM=x237804]

Bye,[SM=x237816]

I didn't answer but I did read and appreciate the story
Hello Tommy !

As I told you in the other forum, I did read with interest your story. I didn't answer because I didn't have such a story to tell about myself but I appreciated that you shared yours with members.

It's a beautiful thing that music can heal our wounds and give us a way of hope in difficult moments.

Hurray for Europe Music which have been our every day companion in the past and who is back for good ! [SM=x237800] [SM=x237824]

Cu [SM=x237816]

Hadi
