Hi guys I'm new here.
It makes me throw up! I’ve always been the greatest fan of Europe since 1987 but I can’t believe that the band is giving so much space to John Norum. JOHN NORUM IS NOT EUROPE! He’s only one more of those small brained guitarists who think to be the star of the band. He is not the star of the band! He’s a good player, that’s it! The video on the web makes me sick: there’s only one video and it’s all about Norum’s solo! What the hell!!! I don’t think I will go to see the show here in Milano, I’m too disappointed.

Just wanted to say what I think.

Thanks and bye

Hej Marco..

Usually when fans are new to the board they are welcomed by some of the regulars round here....but when your opening thread is "I hate Norum" well other Europe fans can't really be expected to welcome you gladly...eh?

Still everyone is entitled to their opinion....

You really should go to the show in Milano. You will not be disappointed.....I assure you.....there are FIVE incredibly talented musicians on stage at every Europe concert...and not one of them has an overblown ego!!!

Europe sometimes check messages left on this forum but thankfully John probably won't read this thread as he has other more important things this week.....like his new baby son!!!!![SM=x237836]

I know I've been a little too "straight", I'm sorry for that but I feel relly bad about this. It's so obvious that the band is accepting Norum's conditions, something like "I will be back IF..." and I can't stand this at all! Joey and the other guys are the Europe. I'm not discussing at all about talent. I know they are all great musicians but it's so sad to download a video, looking forward to see a good band live and what do I get? A looong solo guitar with, at the end, the face of an asshole who repeats Norum's name 10 times! Sorry guys but I cannot accept all of this.
I excuse myself again for being so pissed off.

It didn't go like that..where is that written??

I think that if you don't go to the concert...then you will miss a GREAT SHOW!! And you are not a Europe fan as you believe..

[SM=x237805] Nice guy!![SM=x237823] I think he was great..because he did a long long travel to get to the Sweden Rock Festival...like many of us![SM=x237809] It was for his love for the Europe's music.

HI!

hmm i dont understand, why you say, you hate john norum. If you be a fan, you should know one thing: Norum, Leven and Tempest are the Europe-Base. This 3 guys established Europe. One guy left the band before the Final countdown period: Tony Reno. this 4 guys established europe. not kee marcello. and i have to agree some guys here: None of them has an overblown charakter. europe are not the Rolling stones who think, they're the greatest stars in the world and take drugs and alcohol. This band - and that is one of the reasons why i love the band so much - differented from the music: they stand on the bottom and dont fly away! im very excited for the Nurnberg-concert :-)

so rock on!

First off all, John Norum is in my opinion the best guitarist ever. [SM=x237824] Well, If not John Norum, then who? I don't want europe to sound like the new kee album. I'm shure there will be more videoes on europetheband.com. HELLO Mosher, wake up, the site opened yesterday. If you have heard Norum's solo albums you wouldn't say that he is a small brained guitarist. In my oppinion, you are the small brained one who post this idiotic first thread.

Again I'm not saying at all that Norum is a bad guitarrist. The only albums I love of Europe are the ones that he has recorded. What I'm saying is that he should thank Joey and the other guys to welcome him back in the band. If you try to analyze things from the outside without your blinding love for the band you will see that I'm right. It is not a simple reunion, it's a big business thing where Norum puts the rules.
Anyway, this is what I think, go ahead thinking what you want [SM=x237824] , forums were born for giving opinions, weren't they?

Hi Mosher!

You are so wrong!
Since youre not in the band, you dont know what anyone has said.
I know for a fact that John.N never said that he wouldnt be in the band if he didnt get this or that. He was actually on of the gays who wanted this reunion the most. He would have done it even if he wasnt given this mutch space.
John.N is not the one handeling the website, he has not decided what part of the Swedenrock festival video that would be shown there.
I hope that you will go and see the show, then you will see for your self, this will be a great show!
Take care/ UPV

With Norum out of the band, this album will never sound as heavy as it is. on yhe other side, with Kee in the band I do think that this album had more keyboards and more melodic lines. But it's still a stabel (whatever, I suckt on English class) album, and what will the future bring? I loved the keyboards on out of this time (sign o the times best europe song I think!) I think we all should be glad europe given us a great present! Hero f@&%(%ing rules!

Re:
Hello Marco, hello everybody,

I'm new here in this forum and first of all I would like to say that I'm very happy about the reunion of Europe. I am Europe fan since 1986 and love their music. In my opinion John Norum belongs to the band like the fish belongs to water. He suits the band very well. And Marco, I can't understand that you get annoyed about such small and unimportant things. I mean, if John Norum would eat your concert ticket right in front of you, then you maybe could hate him. But to hate him just because of "a little too much Norum on the website" that's really exaggerated.

But hey, maybe because of all the counterstatements you will fall in love with him in the end.

Take care and relax!

Jolanda

Norum is one of the founding members of Europe, of course he belongs here! The only thing I am disappointed about is that he apparently declined to be in the band if he couldn´t be the only guitarist! [SM=x237801] I personally would have loved to see both him and Marcello in Europe![SM=x237823]

How's everyone?
I agree with Heavymetal girl. I'd love to see them both, too. I just hope the guys are all happy. I don't think it's so much of a John/Kee problem (they almost never worked togehter), but whether John and Mic can get what they wanted, music-wise. Personally, I prefer the Joey-Mic-Kee collaborations, but that's me, the Kee fan, for you.

Unfortunately i have to confess that he is in a a lack of inspitation period!!! Hope he will return to his glory days soon! He is the man too that made me buy my guitar!!!!!

[bsmouse]] I can say that Mr.JOHN Norum[SM=x237811] is really one of the best guitar players in the whole world,He plays his guitar with great respect, passion and with great patience EVEN THOUGH doesnt seem but its there and i can see that his love for his guitar is unlimited,he risk hisself for his guitar..that really impress me,i can tell that he deserve the best guitar in his hands....BUT,Mr,Kee Marcello[SM=x237811] I won't leave him out of this coz he is the same as John is or maybe better and guess what?im tell him right away by a letter:)[SM=x237825]

John Norum = Perfect in the album, Not So Perfect live

I'm myself a guitar player and I had 2 reasons to start playing guitar (I was a keyboardist previous of that) :

1 - *One* song of Dire Straits : Money for nothing

2 - *ALL SONGS* of Europe where John Norum plays ! (especially the TFC Album)

So of course for me John was a *god of guitar* during many years.

But .. yes there is a "but" (not a "butt" ! don't make me say what I don't want [SM=x237805]) , but things changed slightly when I heard Europe live tours. There I was highly disapointed.

Understand me : I have worked on John's solos and I know it by heart (but of course don't ever ask me to play it at the same speed than him on the albums, except some of them.. maybe Cherokee & Carrie ;)).

I would accept some live improvisation (not sure this word is english [SM=x237805]) around these solos, but I was expecting to at least hear let's say 80% of these solos that I'm in love with when John plays it live. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case at all ... the solos once played live are very different from the album ones especially for the hardest parts ! (the easy parts are often strictly the same) I hope you can understand how disapointing it can be for a "guitar student" like me [SM=x237801] .

Now some would say "hey it's normal that they are different, live is made for improvisation, take the cd if you want the original solos". But for me live is also made to be able to see in real your favorite musician play what you have been dreaming to be able to play without managing to do it !

My prefered solo is the one of "Ninja", what masterpiece ! For me it's equal to Mozart, equal to Beethoven, equal to any great musician work. When I hear it in the album, it gives me wings (of tomorrow :D). And when I hear it played live, then I'm flying On Broken Wings (;)) [SM=x237812]

I have listened to other great guitarists in live to see if this was the same for every one of them, namely Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani, and I can tell you that this is not the case. They manage to play the hardest parts of their solos perfectly in live and you have even more than what you would have wanted.

So this is the only critic I can address to John Norum : he disapoints me in live. But he will for sure remain my favorite guitar composer for the work he has done on the Europe albums .. hmm .. on the *PREVIOUS* albums of course. Cause I have already said that the solos of "Start From the Dark" album are totally uninteresting for me (sorry I don't like simplicity ;) even if it's "more organic").

Concerning the subject of this topic i.e John is leading Europe. I think there is some truth in this. He is leading with Joey now I think. And I must say that I'm disapointed too that Mic has been put behind on the mix. Mic is a great musician, I'm a fan of him too (as much not to say more than of John [SM=x237823]). Mic has never disapointed me even on live. For me, Mic is the best musician of the team and should be respected much MUCH more.

Anyway cheers to John if he's reading this, I just hope to hear you playing "Ninja" solo , I mean the *real* Ninja solo live one day [SM=x237823] man I would pay a lot for this ! [SM=x237805]

let me know if you want to know what it mean exacty..ok?!
and one more thing here is to be said and understand me very well,if Mr.John Norum is not gonna be 100% on stage, then they can throw him out and get Mr.Kee Marcello instead, now thats my statement[SM=x237830]

Ninja
Hi Merlot1,

Maybe I'm mistaken but for me the word "Ninja" is a japanese word that stands for : "shadow warrior", "stealh man".

It's a kind of elite japanese warrior that operate with stealth and discretion and use martial arts and white weapons like katana (japanese sword), shuriken (kind of star in steel that can be deadly when throwed), etc.

It was the "hidden" weapon of japanese lords (named shoguns) in the middle-age of japan (before XIXth century) who used samourais for war and ninjas for secret (night) missions.

Now if you have an other idea please feel free to mention it.

Re: John Norum = Perfect in the album, Not So Perfect live

Hi there!

I'me a huge Norum fan, and for me it's the same: he was the reason why I started to grow my hair and picked up the guitar at the age of 5!

I have seen Europe alive 1st time here in Budapest, on 05.07. It was fantastic! BUT: (again some "but":)))) John made terrible mistakes during the solo of Heart Of Stone (I know by heart, and I succed to play it as Jon on the TFC album – after 8 years of hard practicing!:)). As long as I know – and hear – this is a pre-written solo, not improvisating! So IT'S A DEADLY SIN FOR A GUITAR VIRTUOSO! haha! (and he did it in Kee's Superstitious-solo too!)

BUT:! (again "but") I was so happy to see them at last! AND I WAS NOT DISSAPOINTED! Just a bit upset because I could not enjoy my favourite triolas as on the album.

Anyway I agree with you Hadi.

LONG LIVE MAESTRO NORUM[SM=x237811] [SM=x237828] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANX FOR THE INSPIRATION AND FOR Total Control/FAce The Truth albums. AND OF COURSE THE FIRST 3 EUROPES:))))))))))))) [SM=x237824]
