Okay.... VH1s message boards wouldn't let me sign up, and they are probably pretty lucky I can't due to their "technical difficulties" on their site.
In the course of about four hours tonight, I have seen Europe dissed not once, twice.... but THREE TIMES on VH1 here in the States. The first time was on their countdown of the "40 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever", where "The Final Countdown" was #16. In the next show, "The 40 Most Awesomely Bad Metal Songs", TFC was ranked NUMBER ONE MOST AWESOMELY BAD METAL SONG EVER. And then in the *third* show that was on, Europe was #22 in the countdown of the "40 Least Metal Moments Ever", because, in the words of Riki Rachtman, "Being Swedish wasn't their problem, the problem was they sucked."
Granted, VH1 is also ragging on a lot of metal stuff here, including a lot of bands that I loved and still do. But with Europe hoping to release STFD in the US in the spring, and wanting to tour here as well, do they really need VH1 telling a whole generation of potential fans how "bad" Europe was? The timing on this is absolutely horrible. I don't find it humorous in the least.
I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the guys changed their minds about bothering with the US if this gets back to them. I only hope they know that they have a lot of fans here and *we* still love them, no matter what.
Wings (who feels like she should apologize to the guys on behalf of the US for VH1's stupidity)
